This sand stone is great for sharpening carbon and some alloy steel knives, swords and carbon tools. More wear resistant steels may take some time longer to sharpen using this stone. This stone can be used with oil or water but not both. DO NOT SOAK this stone. 

 

Not recommended for beginners or people new to sharpening, natural stones take some experience to use and care for properly. Sandstone is about 6 -7 on the MOHS scale. 

 

Natural stone grits are aproximate and not exact, this stone is roughly equivelant to a 200-320 grit stone.
